A BETTER BRIEF
Planning your sliding doors — single & double project
Specify the configuration
Share whether this is patio access, an interior opening or replacement of an existing unit. Explain which panel or panels should move, your approximate opening and clearance concerns. Ask the installer to confirm measurements and configuration; a label such as double sliding does not describe every detail of the unit.
Distinguish repair from replacement
For an existing door, explain difficult movement, lock problems, drafts or visible damage. Ask whether tracks, rollers, seals or hardware can be assessed separately from the entire frame and glazing. Request the reason for replacement when a repair option is also available.
Compare installation and operation
Include frame treatment, threshold, sealing, finishes, security hardware and disposal in the scope. If the opening changes, confirm structural and municipal requirements first. Agree on operating checks, adjustment and warranty responsibility at handover.
Jobs to describe in your request
- Single sliding configurations
- Double sliding configurations
- Patio-door replacement
- Track and hardware assessment
What changes the cost?
Use these factors to compare the scope of proposals. A total price alone does not show whether the same work is included.
- Configuration and glazing
- Opening and threshold condition
- Repair versus full replacement
- Access and finish work
Ask for a written description of included work, exclusions, payment stages and how additional work is authorized. Confirm who supplies materials and what documentation or warranty terms you receive at completion.
