A BETTER BRIEF
Planning your pest control project
Identify the pest and location
Describe what you have seen (ants, rodents, bed bugs, wasps, wildlife), where, and how long. Do not disturb nests or traps before the visit. For bed bugs or wildlife in walls, ask whether inspection and treatment are separate steps.
Compare treatment approach
Ask whether the proposal is one-time, recurring, or a monitoring program, and what products or methods are used. For commercial spaces, ask about certifications, documentation and scheduling around operations.
Confirm follow-up and warranty
Request the re-treatment policy in writing. Ask what happens if the pest returns within the warranty window and whether the initial visit includes inspection findings.
Jobs to describe in your request
- Ant and insect control
- Rodent control
- Bed bug treatment
- Wasp and hornet removal
- Wildlife removal
- Commercial pest management
What changes the cost?
Use these factors to compare the scope of proposals. A total price alone does not show whether the same work is included.
- Type of pest
- Infestation severity and area
- One-time versus recurring program
- Residential versus commercial
- Follow-up visits included
Ask for a written description of included work, exclusions, payment stages and how additional work is authorized. Confirm who supplies materials and what documentation or warranty terms you receive at completion.
