A BETTER BRIEF
Planning your drywall project
Separate the repair from the cause
Describe holes, cracks, new walls or damaged areas and what happened before the damage appeared. If moisture is involved, ask who resolves the source before finishes are restored. Photograph the area safely and include approximate dimensions.
Define the finish level
Ask what is included in boarding, taping, sanding, priming and painting. Agree on the expected appearance and how it will be assessed, particularly under strong side lighting. Confirm whether matching existing texture or paint is included rather than assuming a repair includes a complete decorated room.
Coordinate with other trades
Clarify when wiring, plumbing or framing work is complete and ready to close. Ask how dust, furniture, floors and adjoining rooms are protected. If a rated assembly or other specified construction is involved, have its requirements confirmed before choosing the materials and method.
Jobs to describe in your request
- Drywall repair
- New drywall
- Taping and finishing
- Renovation restoration
What changes the cost?
Use these factors to compare the scope of proposals. A total price alone does not show whether the same work is included.
- Area and access
- Finish expectations
- Protection and cleanup
- Painting and coordination
Ask for a written description of included work, exclusions, payment stages and how additional work is authorized. Confirm who supplies materials and what documentation or warranty terms you receive at completion.
